Most Lahore businesses set up their Google Business Profile once and never touch it again. That is usually where the trouble starts: small errors, a stuffed business name, a wrong number, an ignored review, quietly cost Maps calls and walk ins every week.
The profile name is not your real business name
This is the mistake we see most. A workshop in Township calls itself "Best AC Repair & Services Township Lahore" instead of its actual shop name. The owner added keywords hoping to rank higher. Google reads it differently: a name that does not match the signboard is a guideline violation, and listings get suspended for exactly this.
Use the name customers see on your shop, invoice and signboard. If you want more visibility, earn it with reviews, complete services and a properly optimised local SEO setup, not by stuffing the name field. When the profile gets suspended, recovery takes weeks, and during that time competitors take your Maps calls.
Contact details that don't match anywhere else
Google checks whether your name, address and phone number are consistent across your website, the profile and other directories. A DHA boutique we audited had one number on the profile, a different one on their website and a third on Facebook. Each mismatch makes Google slightly less confident about which listing is correct.
Pick one primary phone number and use it everywhere. Check that the address format matches your website footer exactly. It sounds trivial, and that is precisely why most businesses never check. Fix it once, check it twice a year, and you remove a quiet source of lost calls.
The wrong primary category
The primary category tells Google what you actually do. A Gulberg restaurant had chosen "Food Delivery Service" as its primary category because deliveries were a side income. It was missing the far more valuable "Restaurant" searches entirely.
Choose the primary category that matches your main revenue source. Add secondary categories for the rest, Google allows them for a reason. While you are there, list your actual services under each category with short, honest descriptions. This is what lets a dental clinic appear for "root canal" instead of only "dentist".
Ignoring the reviews tab
Unhappy customers write reviews; busy owners ignore them. A bad review sitting unanswered for six months tells every future customer two things: the complaint might be true, and the owner does not care. Neither helps.
Reply to every review, not just the bad ones. A short thank you for a five star review costs thirty seconds and shows you are present. For negative reviews, stay calm, address the specific issue and invite the customer to resolve it offline. Review responses are public content, they are read far more often than owners expect.
| Mistake | What it costs you | The fix |
|---|---|---|
| Business name stuffed with keywords | Suspension risk plus customer distrust | Use your real, registered business name only |
| Contact details that match nowhere else | Lost calls; Google trusts you less | One number, one address, identical everywhere |
| Wrong primary category | Invisible for your money keywords | Pick the category customers would search, not the one you wish for |
| Ignoring reviews | Prospects choose the competitor who replies | Reply to every review within days, especially the bad ones |

Claiming a service area you don't actually serve
Plumbers in Johar Town listing all of Punjab as their service area; a salon in Model Town claiming Defence and Bahria too. Overstretched service areas dilute your relevance where you actually are. Google knows roughly where your customers and reviews cluster. Keep the service area honest, a tight, accurate area outperforms a wishful one.
Leaving hours, photos and services half empty
A profile with no photos, "hours not specified" and three blank service fields loses to a competitor whose profile answers everything. Customers compare listings before calling, and the complete one looks more established. Add real photos of the shop, team and work, not stock images. Set special hours before Eid and other holidays. Fill in the attributes (parking, wheelchair access, women led) where they apply. Every empty field is a question the customer now has to ask.
Treating the profile as set and forget
Businesses move, numbers change, menus update, Ramadan timings shift. The profile does not update itself. We recommend a short check every month: hours still right, new photos added, recent reviews answered, nothing flagged by Google. Ten minutes a month keeps the listing current. Most businesses never spend those ten minutes, and it shows in the search results.
A simple monthly routine
You do not need a tool or an agency retainer for basic profile hygiene. Once a month, open the profile and check five things: are the hours correct, do any reviews need replies, is there a new photo worth adding, is there a post worth publishing (an offer, a holiday note, a new service), and has Google flagged anything. That routine alone puts you ahead of most competitors in Lahore, because most of them set their profile up once in 2021 and have not touched it since.
If the list feels longer, duplicate listings, a suspension, an account nobody can access, that is the point where outside help pays for itself. Our SEO services include profile recovery and ongoing local optimisation, and the audit itself is free.
